1. Patas Bravas
If you have never tried this piece of heaven in the form of tapas you are WELCOME my friend. Patas Bravas is essentially diced fried potato that is accompanied by spicy tomato sauce or aioli (Mediterranean sauce made of garlic and olive oil). For all our UK readers - La Tasca do a divine version of this!
2. Calamari
I literally want to salivate at the though of Calamari. This is fried squid, combine it with a squeeze of lemon and a glass of wine on a sunny day = pure bliss. Although the squid is fried it is a very light dish and if you don't like 'fishy' dishes this is perfect!
3. Tortilla Espanola
The english transalation for this gem is Spanish Omelette. This tastes amazing hot and cold.
We stumbled across a beautiful little restaurant in Barcelona for Tapas down a side street of Las Ramblas |
4. Paella
Amy absolutely detests this dish but I HAD to put it on the list. Paella is a combination of rice, saffron, chicken, prawns, mussels etc. This is quite a filing dish and is perfect for dinner.
5. Sangria
Okay, okay we admit this isn't a food but we adore Sangria and feel like it would be a bit much doing a whole post on it haha
Sangria is a traditional alcoholic Spanish drink which consists of red wine and chopped fruit, sometimes with additions of orange juice or brandy. We literally love it that much that Amy has learned how to make it and the minute the sun is out the jug is out in our household.
Our first of many jugs... |
6. Albondigas
Now we know the Italians make a mean meatball but who knew the Spanish do too?! Albondigas is spanish beef meatballs with garlic tomato sauce - lush especially with some bread and olive oil.
If any of you lucky sods are off to Spain this Spring/Summer please, please try some of the treats mentioned in this post and let us know what you thought!
